Nissan North America Inc.'s New Headquarters Takes Shape

Nissan

The new Nissan North America headquarters in Cool Springs is taking shape.

Williamson County’s landscape set a picture-perfect relocation scene for Nissan North America Inc.

Executives announced in late 2005 that they were moving the automaker’s headquarters from Southern California to Cool Springs‚ where construction of a 460‚000-square-foot building is under way.

“Nissan chose to locate its headquarters in Tennessee because we recognized the benefits of the state’s favorable business climate and its proximity to the majority of our customers in the U.S. market‚” says Rob Traynham‚ director of Security‚ Flight Operations and Facilities for Nissan North America Inc.‚ and project director for the new headquarters building.

The existence of a Nissan manufacturing plant in nearby Smyrna‚ along with the presence of auto suppliers in other Middle Tennessee cities‚ added to the appeal of the site‚ Traynham says.

Nissan’s new‚ 10-story building will house major corporate functions such as sales‚ marketing‚ product planning‚ dealer operations‚ communications and the finance and legal departments.

“Construction is proceeding according to schedule‚” Traynham says. “When completed in mid-2008‚ our headquarters will house more than 1‚000 people.”

Cool Springs has become a popular site for corporate headquarters due to its large inventory of available land‚ plentiful employee housing and amenities such as hotel and conference space‚ according to relocation specialists.

Construction costs for the new headquarters on Carothers Parkway in Cool Springs have been estimated at approximately $70 million. Economists at the University of Tennessee’s Center for Business and Economic Research project that Nissan’s move will add $500 million annually to the state’s economy.
